O2 Broadband Poised For Launch

Mobile phone company O2 finally looks set to enter the fixed line broadband market using the name 'O2 Fourplay' a year and a half after acquiring the independent ISP Be Broadband for £50m.
O2 Broadband will be available to just over 50% of the UK population where Be have unbundled the local BT exchange and installed its own equipment - a process known as Local Loop Unbundling (LLU). Broadband speeds will be up to 24Mb which is super fast compared to rival 8Mb offerings from TalkTalk, Orange and BT, while prices are expected to start from £24 a month for non O2 customers. There will also be a free UK based helpline service.
It is widely expected that the mobile phone company will use O2 broadband as a retention tool for its existing mobile customers, rather than market it extensively to acquire new customers. O2 pay monthly mobile customers will receive a significant discount should they sign up to O2's home broadband service.
At the time of writing anyone interested in signing up to O2 broadband are being encouraged to register at the O2 website.
