Be was set up as a privately-owned, independent ISP in October 2004 and started trading in August 2005. It was the first UK broadband internet service provider to deliver download speeds up to a staggering 24Mb and upload speeds up to a record-breaking 2.5Mb. In June 2006, Be was acquired by O2 as part of the mobile phone firms plan to enter the broadband market with a triple play proposition of broadband, landline phone calls and mobile. At present, Be still operates under the 'Be' brand.
Be provide a broadband service through a process called local loop unbundling (LLU). This means that they rent space in a BT exchange, buy their own equipment, create their own backhaul network, and connect BT’s copper ‘last mile’ network to your premises. Be's service is therefore only available if your current premises is connected to a BT exchange in which they've ‘unbundled’ (i.e. put Be equipment in).

In addition, Be Unlimited Broadband has been reduced in price from £24 to £18 a month, while Be Pro Broadband has been cut from £40 a month to just £22 per month. Be broadband is available in areas of London, Manchester and Birmingham. It's worth noting that from October 1st 2007 Be Broadband will be available to up to 75% of the UK population as part of an expanding roll out programme. | If you're looking for stand alone broadband package with the highest speed possible you should consider ordering one of Be's three super fast packages. With speeds up to 24Mb combined with unlimited monthly download usage allowances, Be Broadband represents an ideal choice for heavy internet users and downloaders. It's a shame Be broadband is only available in certain parts of the UK, however, they are investing heavily in an expanding roll out programme so keep an eye out if you can't receive their service just now. |
